Windsor is home to several national parks. Located just a few kilometres southeast of Hawkesbury Valley Race Club, Windsor Downs Nature Reserve features a historic windmill and a water tank that protects a number of endangered plant communities.

Windsor Downs NSW

In Windsor Downs, you’ll find a range of spectacular plant species including the broad-leaved ironbark, grey box, narrow-leaved anaphora, scribbly gum and pea flowers. Several bird species have also been recorded here: the red-capped robins, buff-rumped and yellow-tailed thornbills as well as the endangered regent honeyeater.

Scheyville NSW

A few kilometres to the northeast of Windsor (through Mulgrave and Oakville), you’ll come across the enormous Scheyville National Park. Here you can find original structures from the post-WWII migrant camp of Scheyville through the Migrant Heritage walk.

Scheyville is often overlooked by visitors but can offer a glimpse into an interesting past. But is not just about culture. You will also find that the park comes with a variety of walks and hikes of varying difficulty. You can also go birdwatching, cycling or horse riding. You’ll find paths through the bush, beside the lagoon and past all the historical areas. The Longneck Lagoon reserve sits at the centre of the park and offers stunning views of the rough but beautiful wilderness.
